A PIDDLE DOODLE MEMOIR
of
Fact and Fantasy

This potpourri of remembrances, poems, letters, and anecdotes pertaining to mostly musical and literary personages was written and illustrated with original cartoons and drawings by Peter Fox Smith. Read about Mark Twain, Mozart, Wagner, Thomas Hardy, Brigitte Bardot, Pavarotti, Caruso, Chopin, Brahms, and many more in this entertaining and informative (and at times ribald) collection revealing in words and drawings Peter Fox Smith's comprehensive talent as well as the lighter side of his sometimes darker vision of the human experience. The following, only one of many, in its brevity of both words and lines reveals why this rare volume is a must for any coffee table.

Excerpt from Book -

As Porgy's goat cart crossed the Carolina line,
Heading northwind to New york City, a lone grey cat
Commenced trotting at his side, mewing, the dark, deep
Eyes fixed on Porgy's smile until a great brown hand
Swung down, gently took the cat, and raised it onto
A lap where soon it was all in sleep lulled by the slow
Rhythmic roll over the road and by the warm bass
Of Porgy's songs; ever northward, past fields of corn
To the ocean's shore, to the throbbing masses' door

         "Foolish, wonderful Porgy! Whatever made
You think you could find your Bess?"
"A faith bigger than any thought brought me!"
"But you had to search so long."
         "I always had my hope."
         "I love you, Porgy."
         "I love you, Bess."

Upon the old settee the cat leapt, arched its
Back, stretched, and settled next the lame man's knee.
